Where did it all begin? I guess I could start with growing up in Newark as a kid and begging anyone I could to read my poetry. I was largely ignored but felt something that kept pulling me to the page. But I wasn’t writing about normal kid-happy stuff, I’d write about depression and misery and all the things children were told to never allow themselves to feel. And then came college. From there I started taking poetry more seriously, and honed in even more on writing toward intensity. For once in my life, I worked with my sadness, not against it. From there, my senior year, I tested my luck, applied to MFA programs, and got into my dream school, The Iowa Writers’ Workshop, after weeks of crying over the world’s most grueling grad school submission process. I was 21 at the time and felt so glitter.
Then I got signed a few months into my first year with Creative Artists Agency (the same talent agency Beyoncé is signed to! 😭) To say this was the best moment of my life is a massive understatement.
CAA is representing me in Books, Film, Podcasts, Television and Publishing. Currently I’m working on my debut poetry collection and lowkey wanna enter my film/songwriting era. We’ll see. Stick around. xoxo
